New Voices Festival July 2011This Summer is shaping up to be a very busy one at IRT with Refugee Week, the London 10k Run and the Barefoot Peace Walk, and now we have another amazing event for you to add to your calendars. This is the ‘New Voices Festival’ which takes place over 2 days on the 15th and 16th of July.

New Voices Festival is run by Praxis, a centre in East London which provides advice and support to migrants and refugees from all over the world. They work on lots of projects for displaced people living in the UK, and are involved with many refugee communities in London.

New Voices is a celebration of the contribution that these new communities bring to London. There will be a feast of live music, dance and drama from over the world as well as food stalls, crafts and information stalls. Some organisations will also be running activities and workshops for children and young people.

IRT will be holding a stall there selling our Wawoto Kacel products, which come from the Wawoto Kacel Co-Operative that we work with in Uganda. We’ll also be running a children’s workshop, raising awareness and knowledge of issues surrounding refugees. It’s completely free to attend and we’d love to see as many of you there as possible. What better way to spend a day than outside in the sunshine listening to amazing music, eating fantastic food, embracing the many cultures which make London such a fantastic and diverse place in which to live.

Over 7000 people attended last year and we hope that this year will be even bigger and better. For more information and to register your interest, check out the New Voices Facebook page. Can’t wait to see you all there!
