Redeemer Children's Home

Formerly in Adjumani, northern Uganda.
Project run by the Sacred Heart Sisters, who are now seeking to build a new home following the LRA attack on 18 June 2003.

In the early hours of Wednesday 18 June 2003 the Lord’s Resistance Army attacked the Redeemer Children’s Home and abducted 16 of the children. Six managed to escape almost immediately. We were despairing of ever hearing anything of the remaining nine missing children, but over the last few months several more children have managed to escape, including little Francis, who at 8 years old was the youngest to be taken. Death is the punishment for anyone caught trying to escape so how brave these children were.

There is sad news, however, in that the children who escaped told the Sisters that one boy and one girl have been killed. What a tragic waste of young life.

The situation now is that just one girl, Patricia, remains unaccounted for.

The children not abducted and those who have escaped are now in a different location, for fear the LRA would return for them. The children are living in cramped conditions, but at least they feel safe and are being well cared for.

Plans for the building of a new home are well advanced. We have raised some funds for this, but need more to reach our target of £115,000.
