Burmese Refugees in Thailand

IRT supports projects in northern Thailand and in Bangkok

There are hundreds of thousands of Burmese refugees in Thailand, who have been persecuted and forced from their villages by the military regime in Burma. Some are living along the border between the two countries and others in Bangkok. The minority live in refugee camps but most are eking out a meagre existence living in terrible conditions and finding work wherever they can, usually in underpaid and dangerous jobs which no one else wants.

One of the projects supported by IRT provides a home and education for refugee orphans near the border. The other, in Bangkok, provides welfare and advice for refugees who are struggling to survive in the city.
