Redeemer
Children's Home - formerly at Adjumani, Uganda
Project
run by the Sacred Heart Sisters for Sudanese refugee orphans
In the early hours of Wednesday 18 June last year the Lord’s Resistance Army attacked the Redeemer Children’s Home and abducted 16 of the children. Six managed to escape almost immediately and one enormously brave girl managed to escape about a month later – she decided that death (the punishment for anyone caught trying to escape) was preferable to staying with the rebels. But escape she did and she is now safely back with the Sisters and her friends.
We were despairing of ever hearing anything of the remaining nine missing children, so were overjoyed when we received wonderful news on 6 November that two more boys have escaped, including little Francis, the youngest to be taken.
There is sad news, however, in that one of the recently escaped boys has told the Sisters that one boy was killed - he was epileptic and couldn’t keep up. A tragic waste of a young life.
The children not abducted and those who have escaped are now in a different location, for fear that the LRA would return for them.
We have recently made an Appeal for funds for the building of a new home in an area further south in the country. We are not publishing the Appeal on this site, but If you would like to obtain a copy please call Francesca Roberts on
