International Refugee Trust is a UK-based charitable organisation supporting development and aid projects for refugees, internally displaced people and returnees outside the UK. Currently we support projects in Uganda, South Sudan, Eritrea, Thailand, and Colombia.
We feel that the most effective way to help people, is for the projects to be run by people from the communities themselves. Therefore the way IRT works is that we build up partnerships with local organisations and support them through our networks, expertise and funding. Over the years we have learned that the people best equipped to assess and resolve issues are those who are permanently based in the region and who are part of the community. We therefore do not send people out from the UK to work in the region, although we do visit the projects on a regular basis. Instead, we work closely with people in and from the regions where our projects are based.
